The first marble quarry in the United States.

The first marble quarrying in the United States began in the 18th century.

One of the earliest known marble deposits was located in Dorset, Vermont, where the first commercial marble quarry opened in 1785. This marble was used in both local and national projects, including the construction of many famous buildings. Vermont marble became the most renowned and widely used material in America due to its high quality and diverse colors.
